Jim Baker Family Farewell as Festival Organizers

Dear Tucson Tango Festival participants and tango community at large,

2026 will be the last Tucson Tango Festival that I and my family will organize.

We are very thankful to all that have attended over the years. You, the dancers, are what make an event a success and provide the amazing energy that this event has enjoyed over the years.

This is a very emotional decision for our family, but it is the right thing for us at this time. We have several things planned this year to celebrate the history and special things that have occurred over the years.

We have handed over the event, starting in 2027, to the Tucson Tango community.

As expected, the community has come out in full force to be involved.  We have a great local tango community so we are thrilled they are excited about the opportunity.  This will ensure the event will go on uninterrupted for a long time as there will never have to be another handover.

I will be part of the new non-profit organization as Artistic Director for the first year or so as others work themselves into their roles.

We would like everyone to come usher us out and to welcome in the new leadership of the festival. We have great things planned for our celebration of over a decade of festivals put on by the Baker family so come join us for the party.

We are looking forward to a great farewell event!
